Methuselah Grove

Methuselah Grove, like I say in the podcast below, is a tree lover's Mecca.  Like Tall Trees Grove, Mariposa Grove, and The Giant Forest, it is a place of pilgrimage where every lover of trees and nature must visit once to call life complete.  Methuselah Grove contains the oldest living things in the world.  The bristlecones live in a high silent place in the White Mountains of California.  Summertime sees trains of noisy people every weekend running amongst the trees, but in the other three seasons you can have the entire grove to yourself on some weekdays.  The episode below was filmed in Winter, when the trails were covered in snow.  I was the only person there all day.  Be careful if you choose this time of year as you can loose the trail easily.  I did, and had to backtrack several times to find my footsteps only to eventually give up and return the way I came after completing 3/4 of the loop.

If you come when the roads are open, go to Schulman Grove at sunrise and enjoy the moonscape-like mountains with Bristlecone Pines lit by the glowing sky.
