Hiking: Mount St. Helens

Tony Farley at Mount St. Helens

My latest show, Hiking: Mount St. Helens is out and ready to view.  This is one of my favorite shows yet.  I really love the mountain and it was such an epic trip.  The rain came in and out all day and I was drenched, but I kept going.  You can see me in some of the shots totally soaked.

My camera broke right at the end and would only focus at one zoom setting.  So I set it at the zoom where it would focus and got the final shots you see in the show.  The falls was completely fogged in and I couldn't see any of it.  I could just hear the roar.  I decided I was gonna get that shot and I sat there in the cold waiting.  Finally, the fog cleared a little and the falls came out!  I set up the camera, got it shooting, and got the shot at the end of the show.  That was it.  The fog came back in and the rain started.  I just packed it all away and hiked down doubletime.

I was soaked and tired with a broken camera.  But I knew I had a great show so my step was light.  After hiking a few miles, I was tired and soaked, so I put my iPod buds in and rocked my way throught the next five with my head down and the darkness coming.

I reached the trailhead by headlamp in the dark and fog to find an RV parked right at the exit.  A woman and her Son were looking out the window asking me if I had seen anyone on the trail.  The woman's husband had took off on a trail and was supposed to meet them there.

I said I didn't see anything, and as I walked to my car I started to think back on all the loud music and head down hiking I had done.  If a person was screaming for help ten yards from me I would have walked right by.  I got in my car, sat and thought, dried off a bit, and put my rain gear back on.  It was the least I could do.  I got out, walked acros the parking lot, was prepared to head down the trail to see what I could find when up walked a man on the trail and went right into the RV.

I'm thinking it would be a good idea to stop, turn the music off, and have a look around every now and then, just for safety sake.  Who knows who could be yelling a warning to you or who might need help?

I hope you enjoy the show.  If you do, tell some friends about it and leave a comment on iTunes or on the ON Networks site.  The show is free, but if you leave a kind comment, I would apreciate it.

Here is my EveryTrail Guide to the hike.
